Research Topic: A Black History of the Late Ottoman Empire

Brittany White is a PhD candidate at the University of Virginia. Her dissertation project, "A Black History of the Late Ottoman Empire," examines the African Diaspora in the Ottoman and post-Ottoman world and seeks the Black experience at the center of larger questions in historiography. This includes questions about race, slavery, migration and displacement, and the subsequent formation of nation-states after the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
