On Tuesday June 11th, 2024, the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ hosted a garden party to welcome its new Summer Session students.

In a beautiful ceremony Daniel Levine, University Professor of classical studies and world languages, was honored with the Aristeia Award for Distinguished Alumni/ae for 2024. The esteemed award recognizes living alumni/ae of the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ who have provided exceptional service to the School and contributed in an extraordinary way to the School's mission in teaching, research, archaeological exploration, and publication.

 


 

Professor Levine was a member of the School's 1974 Summer Session and led the Summer Sessions for the American School of Classical Studies in 1987, 1995, 2006, 2018, and 2022—participating in six of the School's summer programs in six different decades. Levine served as President of the Alumni/ae Association and helped to secure donations to support the American School's excavations in the Athenian Agora and at Corinth. As a classical studies professor at the University of Arkansas since 1980, Levine has taught courses in Ancient Greek, Latin, Classical Studies, and Humanities. He has won several local and national awards for service and teaching excellence, published over 50 articles, book chapters, and reviews, and presented over 60 scholarly papers.
